Carbonates, Nitrates, Borates

Carbonates, nitrates and borates are minerals composed of metals combined with the elements carbon, nitrogen or boron. This class includes about 300 species. The best known carbonates are calcite, aragonite and dolomite. Carbonates are fragile and of low hardness. We distinguish the basic carbonates (azurite, malachite), the calcite group (magnesite, siderite) and that of aragonite (aragonite, cerusite). They represent 9% of known species. The most representative minerals are: Aragonite, Aurichalcite, Azurite, Bastnäsite, Borax, Calcite, Cerussite, Dolomite, Gaudefroyite, Hambergite, Jeremejevite, Magnesite, Malachite, Rhodochrosite, Rosasite, Sidérite and Smithsonite.
